During the 15th, 16th, and early 17th centuries a wave
of humanism engulfed the world; this wave encouraged exploration and
learning to discover the breadth of human potential - lands were
discovered, art and literature flourished, and coming from the oppressive
Middle Ages and Gothic period, a rebirth of all Arts emerged - hence the
Renaissance. A "Renaissance Man" was a person that studied, learned, and
became proficient in many areas including science, music, art, language,
and any other venture that would broaden the scope of their potential.
This quality is embodied still be a few people today,
but it is rare, and when we come across such a person, we are dazzled by
their brilliance. Poupee (pronounce Poo - pay) Boccaccio is such a
person - having been noted actress, singer, dancer, and artist. She
holds a BA in romance languages, a BFA from the Otis Parsons School of
Design, as well as a teaching credential for the state of
California.
She has appeared in numerous movies, television series,
and stage productions. She has sung and appeared on countless
television shows as a guest artist, including the Johnny Carson, Joey
Bishop, and Merv Griffin shows.
Poupee has performed in nightclubs throughout the world
and was the singing star of the "Follies Bergere" right here in Vegas.
As a visual artist, her work has been reviewed in "Art
in America". "Art Week", the LA Times, and the San Diego Tribune, to name
a few. Her work is in permanent collections of major museums and
important private collections.
It is with her art that Poupee graces our city once
again. Her work "Las Vegas Neon Icons" is being shown for a limited
time downtown at the Downtown Coffee Company - which is a converted 100
year old church - to bring attention to and share the art and the history
that has defined Las Vegas.
"The neon of Las Vegas us truly the art of the city.
It was designed to be 'eye - candy,' but it is far more that that... it is
a blending of light and form." The pieces were created by combining
and layering photographs to create a stunning and visually energetic
product.
The exhibit begins September 28th, and runs for thirty
days. Prints will be available at the venue as well as online at:
